Madhya Pradesh is endowed with a repository of rich & diverse flora & fauna. There are more than 2000 plant species which are extensively used for their medicinal properties. This floral wealth of Madhya Pradesh holds an immense potential of income generation for the forest dependent communities. In order to familiarise these communities with the various aspects of sustainably utilising these medicinal plants along with the importance of conservation which in ultimate provide opportunities to earn their livelihood, MFP Federation has established a Processing and Research Centre (MFP PARC) at Barkheda Pathani, Bhopal.
To accomplish this task, a laboratory has also been set-up at MFP PARC to provide facilities for quality evaluation of medicinal and aromatic plant produce and honey at nominal charges.
This laboratory is well equipped for assessing the identity, purity, and strength of medicinal plant raw materials involving organoleptic, macroscopic and microscopic examination, physico-chemical analysis as well as characteristic & marker compounds quantification and evaluation of microbial load.
It has state of the art high precision equipments, like High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), Gas Chromatograph (GC), High Performance Thin Layer Chromatography (HPTLC), UV-VIS Spectrophotometer and other peripherals have been installed to meet the globally acceptable quality standards.
A herbarium centre has already been set-up where authenticated plant specimens in the form of herbarium sheets are preserved. A software has been developed for the easy searching & indexing of the herbarium sheets.
